Where faith meets history — the sacred birthplace of Lord Shri Ram
✦
The Land Where Lord Ram Was Born
Ayodhya — the name alone stirs the soul of every Hindu devotee. Nestled on the banks of the sacred Sarayu River in Uttar Pradesh, this ancient city is one of the Sapta Puris — the seven most sacred cities of India believed to grant Moksha (liberation).
At the heart of Ayodhya stands the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, built on the very plot of land believed to be the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram — the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the ideal of Maryada Purushottam (the perfect man).
After a wait of over 500 years — and a landmark Supreme Court verdict in 2019 — the grand temple was consecrated on 22nd January 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The temple reached complete glory on 25th November 2025 with the installation of the Ram Kul Dhwaj atop the 161-foot Shikhar.
"There are millions of temples across Bharat — but there is only one Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. This is the soil where Dharma took human form."
Coming here is not just a visit. It is a yatra — a spiritual homecoming — for millions of devotees across the globe. Whether you seek divine blessings, wish to witness one of history's greatest architectural restorations, or simply want to stand on this earth and absorb its energy, Ram Janmabhoomi offers an experience that transcends words.
This guide covers everything you need for a smooth, fulfilling, and deeply spiritual darshan — timings, booking, what to expect, where to go, and how to make the most of your sacred journey.
Ram Lalla's Divine Darshan
The presiding deity is Ram Lalla Virajman — the infant form of Lord Ram, as a five-year-old child, radiating innocence and divinity.
Thousand-Year Architecture
Built in Nagara style with Bansi Paharpur Pink Sandstone, without iron or steel — engineered to stand for 1,000+ years.
The Miracle of Surya Tilak
On Ram Navami, a precise optical system directs sunlight onto Ram Lalla's forehead for 4 minutes at exactly 12:00 noon.
Sacred Pilgrimage Circuit
Ram Janmabhoomi sits at the center of a rich spiritual landscape including Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, and the Saryu Ghats.

An Architectural Marvel — Built for Eternity
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir is not just a place of worship — it is a landmark of Indian civilization, craftsmanship, and devotion. Built entirely in the ancient Nagara style of temple architecture, every detail has been crafted with profound spiritual intention.
Key Architectural Highlights
Pink Bansi Paharpur Sandstone from Rajasthan forms the primary building material — chosen for both its beauty and durability. The stones are joined using traditional copper interlocking, a technique that has kept ancient Indian temples standing for millennia without cement.
The complex includes six additional temples within the parkota (boundary wall), dedicated to Surya, Bhagwati, Annapurna, Shivling, Ganpati, and Lord Hanuman — creating a complete spiritual universe within the complex.
☀️ The Surya Tilak — A Divine Phenomenon
Once a year, on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, something extraordinary happens at exactly 12:00 noon: a precisely engineered optical system — developed by CBRI Roorkee — directs a beam of natural sunlight through mirrors and lenses, illuminating the forehead of Ram Lalla's idol for approximately four minutes.
This is the Surya Tilak — the Sun's own blessing upon the birth of its descendant. The event is broadcast live on giant screens across Ayodhya and on Doordarshan nationally. If your visit coincides with Ram Navami, book well in advance — wait times can reach 5–8 hours on that day.
Sacred Places to Visit in Ayodhya
Ram Janmabhoomi is the crown jewel, but Ayodhya has a complete pilgrimage circuit every devotee should experience. By tradition, always visit Hanuman Garhi first before proceeding to the Ram Mandir.
🚩 Hanuman Garhi — Visit First, Always
A magnificent 10th-century fortress-temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located just 1 km from Ram Janmabhoomi. Devotees climb 76 steps to reach the shrine. It is an unbroken tradition that one seeks Hanuman ji's blessings before Ram Lalla's darshan — for Hanuman is the eternal guardian of Lord Ram's abode.
🏛️ Kanak Bhawan — Palace of Golden Love
One of the most beautiful temples in Ayodhya, believed to have been gifted to Goddess Sita by Queen Kaikeyi as a wedding present. The temple houses golden-crowned idols of Ram and Sita, and has an atmosphere of extraordinary peace and devotion.
🌊 Saryu Ghat & Ram Ki Paidi
The ghats along the holy Saryu River are where Ayodhya's soul truly comes alive. Ram Ki Paidi is perfect for a sacred snan (bath) before darshan. The evening Saryu Aarti — with dozens of lamps reflecting on the water — is an experience comparable to Varanasi's Ganga Aarti. Do not miss it.
🏰 Dashrath Mahal
The royal palace of King Dashrath, father of Lord Ram. This ancient site within central Ayodhya gives devotees a tangible connection to the royal heritage of the Solar Dynasty.
⛩️ Nageshwarnath Temple
One of the oldest Shiva temples in Ayodhya, believed to have been established by Kush, son of Lord Ram himself. Especially sacred during Maha Shivratri.
🍳 Sita Ki Rasoi
Located near Ram Janmabhoomi, this unique site is believed to be the kitchen of Mother Sita. Ancient stone utensils are preserved here — a deeply moving stop for devotees who reverence Goddess Sita.
